Inaugural meeting of a new disciplinary special interest group in Islamic Law

As part of its contribution to the Higher Education Academy's Islamic Studies Network, UK Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE) announces the inaugural meeting of a new disciplinary special interest group in Islamic Law.
The purposes of the meeting will be to provide a forum to:
· identify key substantive and pedagogic issues relevant to the development of learning and teaching Islamic Law within UK higher education
· establish priorities and a plan of work for the group, with the support of UKCLE, the Islamic Studies Network, and other bodies.
The draft programme for the half day event is as follows:
12.00-12.15 Registration
12.15-13.00 Lunch
13.00-13.10 Welcome and introduction - Julian Webb, Centre Director, UK Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE)
13.10-13.30 Introducing the Islamic Studies Network - Lisa Bernasek, Academic Coordinator (Islamic Studies Network), The Higher Education Academy – Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics & Area Studies (LLAS)
13.30-14.45 - Lead presentation: The dangers of kryptonite: Living with imperfection in the teaching of Islamic law. - Nicholas Foster, Senior Lecturer in Commercial Law, School of Law, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
14.45-15.00 Tea
15.00-16.00 Open space session: To define priorities and themes/workshops for the group - Julian Webb, Shaheen Mansoor, Research Assistant, UKCLE & Lisa Bernasek, LLAS
16.00-16.30 Discussion & close of sessions
Fee - There is no charge for this event. Lunch and refreshments will be provided at the times noted on the programme.
Booking - All who wish to attend the event should complete the online booking form at: http://www.ukcle.ac.uk/event/inaugural-meeting-of-ukcles-islamic-law-special-in. As places are limited on this event, early booking is advised to secure a place.
Cancellation - Once a booking has been confirmed, at least 48 hours notice should be given if you are unable to attend the event. A cancellation charge of £50 will be made in the following circumstances:
· less than 48 hours notice of non-attendance given
· no prior notice of non-attendance given
Another person may be substituted from the same institution as long as the details of the substitute are received in writing.
